The Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine is one of the most compact espresso machine on the market and it offers good value for money. It is priced at $150 and has the same set of features that you would expect to find on much more expensive models.

It is placed at number 37 out of 50 on the bestseller list, and the reason for this relative low spot is probably because it does not look like a conventional espresso maker, and because many people that are looking for an espresso maker are willing to pay more for a known (European) espresso maker brand.

Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine review Score is 5.3 out of 10.

The Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino is made for the low priced end of the segment, and most low priced models try to look like they are copies of much more expensive machines. This is not the case with this unit; it has its own distinct style with a water tank to the left side of the machine. This makes it stand out from all other espresso machines. It also has the practical consequence that the water tank is easily accessible so the design makes the machine easier to use than the average machine that normally has the tank placed on the backside of the unit.
It has another feature that is not often seen on an espresso machine and that is the possibility to adjust the function of the frothing sieves. It can be used to make cappuccinos or it can be adjusted so that it is capable of making steam for lattes. The sieves can also be used for making steam and hot water for soups, tea, etc. This is a convenient feature that is not found on any other machine in this price range.

Value for money

The price of the Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino is arround $150, which is less than half of what an average semi-automatic machine costs, so in that respect the machine offers value for money. From a feature point of view, you do get quite a lot for your money such as indicator lights and a built in cup warmer.

Compared to the competition

The segment around $150 has some of the bestselling semi-automatic espresso machines. Three out of five of its competitors are in the overall top 10 over the bestselling semi-automatic espresso makers, so it is fair to say that the Capresso does get a run for its money. In that respect, the Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino has two things going for it; its size and the level of features that are built into the machine.  The brand name Capresso works against this machine, because the toughest competitors in this price range are from well-known brands such as DeLonghi and Philips.

One quality feature stand out with this machine, and it is the heat up time. It only takes 50 seconds for the unit to be ready and that is fast. The average time for a semi-automatic espresso machine is just over 2 minutes so this makes the Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino 60% faster.

The machine is very small, compared to an average espresso maker. The dimensions are 8x12x11 inches and that is 40% smaller than the average semi-automatic espresso machine.

The small size is also reflected in the weight of the machine. It only weighs 8 pounds which is 50% of the average weight of a semi-automatic espresso maker. When it comes to the water tank, the size is actually close to average. It is 48 ounces and that is a little bit bigger than average, so owners of the machine will appreciate this because it means that they do not have to refill that often. The tank is removable and has a water level indicator.

The energy consumption of the machine is 1050 W, and that is under 15% average, as you would also expect for at machine with its specifications.

The machine heats up using a Thermo Block heating system that ensures a speedy heat up time. The built in pump produces 16 bar pressure, and that is sufficient to make espresso with oil extracted from the beans. You should also know that 16 bar pressure is quite good for a machine in the price range, most of its competitors uses only 15 bar pressure.

The Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino comes with a built in metal cup warming platform, but do not expect too much of it. Most of the time you will get your cups warmed up faster just by filling them with hot water before you use the cup.

Other quality features include indicator lights, removable drip tray and a self-locking filer.

The Capresso Pump Espresso and Cappuccino comes with a measuring spoon and cord storage on the backside of the unit.
